Sierra was one of our greatest horses, but we have had a few.
Lady was Rick's most favorite horse. But it took a while to get there.
As I mentioned before I was a beginning rider when I met Rick. He gave me Argo on our first date. However, she was two and very small and we had both never ridden. At that time he had Girl, but she was used to Rick and a bit small for me to ride.
So we went to the sale. :) We had a palimino and a white horse. Who would want a brown one. Lady was the largest non brown horse that we sale that night. But she was an appy. And she came with lots of baggage. :)
The guys at work knew when I went riding. I came back to work with scratches all over and sometimes limping. Lady and I had many issues. She hated to load in two horse trailers and we finally got her to load one day about 6 weeks before we married. I had never seen a horse jump let alone feel it. We came to a small creek as we were starting to ride at Oologah and she decided to jump. She looked at me on the ground and wanted to know why I didn't know what she was doing. :( I got back on and finished the ride, but didn't ride again until after the wedding. I didn't want to limp down the isle. :)
The day after we were married we went riding and as I was holding her to be saddled she bit my tummy. I yelled and let go. A natural response. But she was hard to catch and Rick was mad. We did finally catch her again and we went to find another horse. Sierra was brown, but loved me and taught me to ride.
From the day that we bought Sierra Lady was Rick's. He worked hard at bonding with her and by early 2000 had a horse that you could ride without reins, outwalk walking horses, and do most anything for him.
Unfortunately we lost Lady on Election Day 2000. We got a call from one of the boarders were we pastured telling us that she was down and would not get up. She had colicked and held on for Rick to get there and tell her that it was OK to go. Rick was heart broken.
Shortly after that we recieved picutres from the Woolaroc Ride which was the last ride that she went on. We have cherished them greatly.
Please email us with tales of Lady and we will add them with time.
Hope you enjoy our pictures.

One of the few times that Amber rode Lady. Notice you see Rick's legs. Lady was truely a one person horse. At the stable in Broken Arrow. Probably Spring 1999.
